Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion. Update 9/10/20: with JRiver MC27, VST’s are better handled and I’ve installed ReLife 1.6 and three other 64-bit plug-ins from Terry West, without issue. This is the latest build of JRiver Media Center 25. Update: AmbiophonicDSP works very effectively in Winamp 5.8. This prompted me to figure out how to use my ADC/USB interface, and to identify suitable recording software. There’s a HiFi Zine article about plug-ins for audiophile music players here.Īs an aside, my search for VST plug-ins turned up a forum discussion about using Media Center to record from LPs. Sounding superb – solid and punchy – is Tone (Presence), Omnisone, and ReLife, added to DSP Studio. I’m experimenting with combinations of these effects. I’ll post a mini review when I’ve tried it, as Ambiophonics is a big topic. This boosts lifelike imaging, spatiality, and tone colour (timbre). Oddly, ReLife has a minor glitch that momentarily cuts the sound after about 10 seconds – a minor annoyance, otherwise very effective.Īnother free effect is Vintage Tube Saturator from Wave Arts, which simulates a dual triode preamp.ĭisappointed that ambio.one doesn’t work for me, I’m awaiting a bought download of AmbiophonicDSP (from Howard Moscovitz and Robin Miller). This is a 32-bit plug-in, and I’ve used JBridge to run it in Windows 10 64-bit. I also installed Terry West’s ReLife, which treats heavily clipped audio files to recover transients and lost wave peaks and troughs, to give more ‘air’ to tracks. The effects are linear-phase 16-band graphic equalizer, 7-band harmonic (overtone) graphic equalizer, and asymmetric tube triode overdrive, respectively. It works really well in Foobar2000, though.Īlso Marvel GEQ and Overtone GEQ, and Tube Amp from Voxengo. Such a setup, even with only two speakers, can produce approximately 170 degree wide soundstage with considerably better imaging and sound localization than conventional stereophonics. Unfortunately, it crashes MC25, so I can’t use it. I got ambio.one, which processes 2-channel stereo to be presented on closely-spaced speaker pairs. This is a spatial image processor that enhances ambiance. I also installed Omnisone from Toneboosters. My preference is ‘Presence’, which makes the sound quality very immediate and punchy. The effect is heard immediately on switching. Toned provides a choice of gentle Loudness, Stereo Wide, Mid Channel Warmth, Bright Tilt, Low Tilt, and Presence. Such freely available plug-ins improve listening experience more than upgrading to more expensive components. They are easy to download and install into Media Center.įor example, Toned is a specialized tone shaping plugin with analog modeling. Toned is a superb tone control that can correct most poor recordings with the turn of a few knobs. Many are free-of-charge, and a few are suitable for audiophile use. There are a lot of Virtual Studio Technology (VST) audio Effect DSP plug-ins available. These are part of the onboard DSP Studio in Media Center. I’ve usually had ‘Living Room’ acoustic environment simulation and subtle surround field, as well as speaker distance / signal phasing optimisation, running. Following my brief and ultimately frustrating encounter with Roon, and subsequent return to JRiver Media Center 25, I’ve been investigating some of it’s features that Roon doesn’t have, especially DSP (digital signal processing).
